Founded in 1966, Soaltee began with one landmark hotel in Kathmandu. Over six decades, it has grown into a diversified hospitality group with 12 brands across Nepal and Germany.

Today, Soaltee's portfolio spans city hotels, resorts and destination properties, each reflecting its location while sharing the group's commitment to thoughtful hospitality and enduring standards.

The Beginning

The Soaltee opens its doors in Kathmandu, introducing a new chapter in Nepal's hospitality industry.

From its Kathmandu roots, Soaltee expands into some of Nepal's most distinctive destinations, from the Himalayas and lakeside escapes to wildlife and pilgrimage destinations.

Guided by heritage, inspired by excellence, and committed to creating exceptional hospitality experiences that leave a lasting impression.

  1. 1965

    The Vision Takes Shape

    The foundation for what would become Soaltee Hotel was established in Kathmandu, at a time when Nepal's tourism industry had just begun to emerge.

  2. 1966

    The Doors Open

    On 25 November, Soaltee Hotel was inaugurated by King Mahendra. The 104-room hotel opens as one of Nepal's first five-star properties.

  3. 1969

    An International Standard Arrives

    Oberoi Hotels Private Limited invests in Soaltee and takes over operational management. The hotel became Hotel Soaltee Oberoi – Oberoi's first international venture outside India.

  4. 1975

    A Company Grows Beyond the Hotel

    Soaltee becomes a public limited company and enters airline catering, responding to the growing movement of international travellers through Nepal.

  5. 1978

    A Nepali First

    Soaltee became the first Nepali company to secure financing from the International Finance Corporation, with IFC taking a 14% equity stake.

  6. 1981

    The Himalayan Wing

    A major expansion adds 180 guestrooms, taking the hotel's total capacity to 282 rooms.
